Our Facilities

Our seven training facilities spread out over a 66-acre campus, allow the Fairbanks Pipeline Training Center to provide training courses in all aspects of large-diameter pipeline construction—including side boom operation, pipe welding, surveying, heavy equipment operation, and drilling and placing Vertical Support Members (VSMs)—using the actual equipment, materials, and tools employed in the field.

Construction Trades Facility

Building A – Alaska Works Partnership (AWP), a non-profit training provider has its Interior Alaska educational programs located in this 14,749 square foot facility. AWP programs include introduction to basic carpentry, electrical, plumbing, painting, and drywall and weatherization classes. Alaska Work’s Rural Apprentice Outreach, Helmets to Hardhats, Women in the Trades, Alaska Construction Academies, Weatherization and Energy Programs are all housed in this facility.

Building C – This 25,449 square foot facility includes administrative offices, a cluster of four classrooms, large assembly and training area, instructional shop and support areas. The classroom wing contains four classrooms, each equipped with suitable instructional components and sized to accommodate 20 to 24 students. The shop wing is a 60 x 80 shop with instructor’s office and restroom to allow functional independence from the rest of the facility. The assembly wing at approximately 80 x 80 contains a large meeting hall divisible into two halls. This area is designed to be multi-functional and is configured to accommodate a variety of events from hands-on training, exhibits, lectures and assemblies. The second floor houses the administrative areas, a conference room, offices, small break room and support areas, including mechanical ventilation equipment. The entire facility is ADA accessible and elevator access is provided to the second floor.

Student Housing Facility

Building E –  Completed in October 2014, our 12,000 square foot, 24-person camp housing project is utilized for our Pipeline Training Academy, and other training throughout the year. The camp housing facility has a full kitchen and dining area, and a resident manager efficiency apartment.

Equipment Shop

​Building 2888 Tria Road – The 4,800 square foot shop is used for heavy duty mechanic training and welding, and for the repair and service of the training center’s equipment. The shop has a 10-ton bridge crane and portable welding booths.

Process Technology Program

Building B – UAF Community and Technical College – Associate of Applied Science in Process Technology and Certificate in Instrumentation Technology, Power Generation and Safety, Health and Environmental Awareness. This 15,436 square feet facility includes a process technology lab, safety and health lab, computer lab, offices, classrooms and shop space. Classes are held on subjects such as pumps and turbines to instrumentation, safety and quality control for work in oil and gas processing, chemical manufacturing, petroleum refining, power generation, utilities, mining, milling, waste and wastewater systems.

Welding Center

Building D – This 9,560 square foot facility has 16 welding booths, classrooms, offices and a large fabrication area with a 10-ton bridge crane. This facility trains Alaskans to become proficient at production pipeline welding. Processes include Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW), Flux Core Arc Welding (FCAW), Metal Inert Gas (MIG), Tungsten Inert Gas (TIG) and Submerged Art Welding (SMAW). While structural welding is performed at the facility, the emphasis in on quality and production pipe welding as required by the oil and gas industry in Alaska. The Welding Center is the first and only facility in Alaska dedicated to the training of Alaskan mainline pipeline welders.

Tria Road Field Site

The Tria Road Field Site consists of two parcels. A 45-acre parcel developed into access roads, work pads, 2 ½-acre pipe storage yard and approximately 4,300 feet of pipeline right-of-way for mainline pipeline training. A separate 12-acre parcel has been developed into an equipment storage yard.

Truck Shop

Building 2864 Tria Road – This 6,400 square foot classroom and truck shop houses a Commercial Truck Driving Program offering Alaskans opportunities to complete basic driving training, individual CDL training, road skills and endorsement preparatory courses.
